Dom Sebastião Armando
The Anglican Diocese of Recife is a part of the Episcopal Anglican Church of Brazil, the 19th Province of Anglican Communion and a fraction of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church of Christ. We are seated in the Northeast region of Brazil, one of the poorest regions of this continental country, despite the antiquity of its population and the important role it developed in Brazilian history.
As Anglicans, we are an expression of Reformed Catholicism as it was inherited by the English expression of Reformation, developed by the Church of England, and a result of the missionary work of the Seminary of Virginia, of the Episcopal Church of the USA. However, in spite of this Anglo-Saxan heritage, we face the challenge of constructing a Brazilian Church, inspired by our own spiritual traditions, which emerged from the interaction among all peoples composing the rich cultural and social heritage of Brazil: Amerindians, Africans, Asians and Europeans.
Everyday we, Brazilian Anglicans herein in Northeast Brazil, face the challenge of the construction of an open and inclusive diocese, according to the testimonial of Christ himself and being a signal of his Gospel to Brazilian society in the context of 21st century and with the perspective of building the Kingdom of God as we look for economic and social democracy and justice.
In Christ,
The Anglican Diocese of Recife,
of The Anglican Episcopal Church of Brazil
